Duracell and Mad Men’s John Slattery inspire hope for those with hearing loss
Duracell just launched their new Stay Connected initiative promoting the benefits of healthy hearing. It’s a terrific educational campaign that highlights the dangers of untreated hearing loss and celebrates the transformative power of today’s hearing aids and the batteries that keep them going.
The centerpiece of Stay Connected is a moving 2-minute video that’s designed to inspire the millions of Americans living with untreated hearing loss to take action. The message: No one should be disconnected from the people they love.
The Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) is pleased to have served as Duracell’s go-to resource for information and expert advice on hearing loss. We applaud Duracell’s commitment to better hearing. And welcome the opportunity to help spread this important message during Better Hearing and Speech Month.
At the Duracell press event last week, Mad Men’s John Slattery (right with CHC’s Laurie Hanin and Nacy Nadler) spoke about his father’s experience with hearing loss – the social isolation before seeking treatment and his reconnection to the world around him once he started wearing hearing aids. Slattery, who provided the voice over for the video, is partnering with Duracell to put a spotlight on the issue of hearing loss and bring hope to millions of families.
Hearing loss is the second most prevalent health issue globally. The number of people with hearing loss is more than those living with Parkinson’s, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and diabetes combined, Beyond the feeling of isolation which can lead to depression, research has found that people with mild hearing loss are more likely to develop dementia and nearly three times more likely to have a debilitating fall. These are some of the reasons why it is so important for people to take the initial step of getting their hearing tested.
Happy Better Hearing and Speech Month, everybody!
