Get involved as a donor, volunteer, advocate
For more than a century, the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) has been recognized as New York’s premier nonprofit hearing health care center.
We proudly serve as a pillar of support for the deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind community, impacting the lives of more than 20,000 individuals annually.
Our donors make it all possible
This gold standard of care is made possible, in part, by CHC’s own pillar of support – our donor community. Your generosity accounts for more than 50% of our operational revenue.
Hearing loss is the second most prevalent disability facing infants, children, adults and the elderly. Yet so many people don’t get the help they need because of emotional, practical and economic challenges. In fact, 50% of our clients come from underserved groups facing any or all three of these challenges.
Your support helps CHC to provide comprehensive, compassionate and unsurpassed care to people with all degrees of hearing loss, regardless of mode of communication or financial situation.
The CHC Difference
CHC is not simply a service provider. We empower individuals affected by hearing loss, deafness or listening challenges. We “go beyond the test booth” and find meaningful solutions to hearing and communication difficulties that work in real-life settings.
We connect families struggling to cope with the challenges of hearing loss with other members of the community so that they can gain invaluable insight and support.
Young and old, hearing loss isolates. But when people feel empowered, they are more likely to address their hearing health challenges, more likely to advocate for their needs, more likely to connect to life.
CHC is also proud to serve as a community partner, bringing hearing health care and education to more than 5,000 children and seniors in their local communities annually.
Impact of your support
Your contribution makes it possible to offer client-centered care featuring these CHC hallmarks:
- More time spent with clients at every visit, beyond what insurance and fees can cover. This allows our treatment teams to truly connect and make a difference. Learn more.
- A family-centered approach to the delivery of pediatric care that empowers parents to be the primary facilitator of their child’s spoken language development. Learn more.
- A multi-disciplinary team of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, education specialists and psychotherapists provides more comprehensive care for better outcomes. Meet the staff.
- Community outreach gives seniors and preschoolers in underserved neighborhoods throughout NYC and Ft. Lauderdale urgently needed access to hearing health care and education. Learn more.
- Expertise in the hearing needs of older adults, particularly those with untreated hearing loss who are most vulnerable to related health and safety issues such as isolation, depression, falls and cognitive decline. Learn more.

Join us in transforming lives
You’re invited to get involved in CHC’s community of caring supporters. Whether as a donor, volunteer or advocate, your action will help transform the lives of people struggling to overcome the challenges of hearing loss.
Become a CHC volunteer
As a nonprofit organization constantly in search of new ways to serve our community, we can always use the help of enthusiastic, talented people. Volunteers and interns at CHC learn from accomplished professionals and can commit small or large amounts of time. Volunteers often contribute in the areas of marketing and development, but other opportunities exist as well. Young professionals are invited to participate in our mentor program. Email us.
Help others in your community
Are you involved in the health care needs of a population who could benefit from mobile audiological care? If so, please contact us and we’ll let you know how we can work together to bring hearing health care and educational programs to your school, senior center or local community.
