CHC touches the lives of people with hearing loss in surprising ways.
Carol-Lynn is a longstanding CHC client and an accomplished cyclist who was invited to join the prestigious women’s cycling team Houlihan Lokey in 2012. She’ll never forget the day she received her team jersey. Among the sponsors’ logos prominently displayed was that of the Center for Hearing and Communication. CHC, she later learned, was a team sponsor courtesy of a caring donor.
An opportunity to educate everyone about my hearing loss…
Carol-Lynn was thrilled to have CHC’s support. In fact it inspired her to be an advocate for herself. She emailed her coach and teammates to tell them about her hearing loss, her communication needs, and her personal connection with CHC. She told us, “I’m not one to broadcast my hearing loss, but in this case I tried to educate everyone subtly. The coach was fantastic and the girls were great.”
Team Houlihan Lokey had a winning season in 2012, and Carol-Lynn produced several first-place finishes in individual categories. To commemorate the experience, she framed a jersey along with team photos and presented the gift to CHC’s Assistant Executive Director, Nancy Nadler. She told Ms. Nadler, “I love wearing that jersey and hope I can inspire deaf children. I want them to know if you’re deaf, you can do anything.”
CHC is honored to be sponsoring Carol-Lynn and her teammates again in 2013.
