As Director of CHC's Education Center, I oversee a team of education specialists dedicated to helping children with hearing loss achieve their full academic potential. Reading skills are essential for success in the classroom, so we start reading with our kids early on with a goal of fostering a love of reading.
Recently, Philo and Luciana, both 9 years, participated in a CHC virtual book club, reading and discussing The Worst Team Ever by Mateo Sommer. As part of their assignment they co-wrote a book review, which I'm pleased to share. (Spoiler alert: they liked it a lot.)

Book Review by Philo and Luciana
The Worst Team Ever
Recently our book club read The Worst Team Ever by Mateo Sommer. We were interested in reading the book because our hearing teacher (Dana) at the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) told us that one of the main characters has hearing loss and a cochlear implant.
During the story, we related to a few of the characters. The main character Noah has hearing loss just like both of us! Also, we both play soccer, although both of our teams are good unlike in the book. Lastly, we connected with Rosie because she is a girl who loves soccer. We both enjoyed that at the end of the story, Noah started a petition to start a girls' soccer team. Also how the team worked together to become a lot better as a team.
We recommend this book to anyone, but especially kids with hearing loss, and give it 4 and 1 quarter stars!
